Acne Scarring

Scarring from Acne

Most people to get Acne see it first during adolescence, and for some it continues into adulthood. The underlying cause is usually testosterone, which both genders accumulate during puberty. Most people will see acne fade away once they reach their early twenties, and some will continue to have acne well into their thirties, forties, and beyond.

Did you know there are several types of acne scars

  • Atrophic macules – small, with blue and white color that are normally less visible than other types of scarring.
  • Depressed fibrotic scars – large and steep with sharp edges on the surface of the skin.
  • Ice-pick scars – these are deep scars and can develop into depressed firotic scars with time.
  • Follicular macular atrophy – small, raised white lesions that are normally found on the chest or back.

How to Remove Acne Scarring

The good news is that there are several techniques to
get rid of acne scarring.

Collagen Injections to Treat Acne Scars
Collagen injections are used by clinics to reduce ’tissue-paper’ scars and ‘ice-pick’ scars. Unfortunately, bad collagen injection results have been seen in celebrities, so if you choose this process, please be careful and use caution.

Laser Acne Scar Treatment
If the acne is no longer active, and the scars are extensive this treatment is possible. The process is costly in private clinics and requires a medical professional.

Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion for Acne Scar Removal
Dermabrasion used to be a common method of treating acne scars and this process is basically removing the top layer of skin using a wire brush with high-speed. It is no longer used very often due to the risk of infection.

Microneedling as an Effective Mild Acne Scarring Treatment Method
This development has been used by doctors for several years, and now this method can be carried out within your own home. The micro needling process works by effectively stimulating collagen production in the skin.

In 2006, research with tissue biopsies showed that a single skin needling session can encourage up to 1,000% increase in collagen levels. The results revealed a more even texture with younger looking skin. Visit our Skin Roller Before and After Pictures page.
